Protea Hotel by Marriott Umfolozi River

Location, easily accessible

The Towels were dirty, the toilet was leaking water all over the floor, the TV was too high up with minimal channels, the remote did not work properly, the bed was not too comfortable, there was no extra blanket for the cold winter night. We had to find our own way to the room with no assistance and we got a lost a few times before we eventually found it.

Everything, literally everything. From the food, the good looking rooms, cleanliness, friendly staff and security guards. Receptionists really do make you feel at home, the waitors do an excellent job.

We really enjoyed our stay. The staff OH MY WORD ????THEY ARE AMAZING, VERY FRIENDLY WHICH DEFINITELY MAKES US WANTING TO VISIT AGAIN SOON.

Cleanliness. They supplied drinking water. How big our family room was.

We could not swim in the pool. The toilet flow pressure was very weak. And one of the beds had bedbugs.

Everything was excellent starting from the security guard when we arrived and the protea staff members and the rooms were tied up ?clean neat.Your service is outstanding guys.Thanks alot.

Starting from the dinner it was very good, all Thanks to one of your stuffs named Sthabiso she really came into handy. I really appreciate her effort to make my holiday a success, she also served me good breakfast with great patience..Thank u so much to Sthabiso

I didn't like the absence of gowns in my room.

The staff were exceptionally friendly!

We arrived and the room was not aired out so it had a musky smell. Later that evening we discovered a bat in the room and had to get room service to come take it out. We were hardly able to sleep due to the bats in the roof... the constant scratching was very unpleasant for my family.

There was a terrible sewer that lasted from the time of our arrival to our departure.These is no privacy between the bed room and the showe / toiletsThe paving around the complex was uneven in cetain areas. Major risk for people walking in the dark

I liked how it’s compromised of chalets and not your “normal” hotel that’s just stacked together but giving you your private space. Love the out door and nature feel about it. Makes you feel as if your in nature and not surrounded by people

The chalet itself is really not clean especially the bathrooms, ours had moulding and dirt buildup in and around the shower. It needs an intense deep cleaning as well as the pools need some cleaning done. Also didn’t like the switch up based on what we booked

Beds and aircon

No cutlery , dirty pool, microwave not working, tv signal very poor, room not swept properly. No information booklet in the room.

Peaceful and tranquil hotel, no noise and clean.

Disappointing

My booking meal plan included breakfast, they refuted that arrogantly so...Taps have no drinking water but bottled water was not provided

Stayed in a bungalow- was spacious and clean.

Far below what you would expect from Protea/ Marriott. Accessing the property from the highway does require driving on a dirt track- however, it is accessible by car. The restaurant was closed on the day we stayed there without prior warning. Closest external restaurant is approx. 25kms away.Self catering is not an option. Depending on the unit that you are staying in, the car park can be a distance away making it a challenge to move luggage- down stairs, etc. If you are staying here with the intention of visiting the Hluhluwe Imfolozi game park, it’s advisable to rather stay in the town of Hluhluwe as it’s closer to a park gate being Memorial gate. If you want to enter via Nyalazi gate, consider staying in St Lucia instead of the town of Umfolozi- it’s a little further but with much better accommodation.

The location and cleanliness.

No bar fridge in any of the rooms. Staff need to improve on service. I had booked 4 rooms and they were in different areas, the lady at reception expected me to find the rooms by myself, but she did eventually take me to each of the rooms after I asked. Then when checking out I was asked to pay for breakfast in a room that included breakfast when I booked. I tried explaining but the lady was adamant. I spent a good 15 minutes telling her and showing her on my phone. Eventually she said I must email her the booking confirmation email, which I did. She confirmed that the room did indeed include breakfast but no apology for embarrassing me and wasting my time followed.

We had no water for almost the whole day and the fact that you have to go and request for water to drink and TV channels they are very short

The place is peaceful and i liked the chalets, they are homey but they must check if aircons are still regassed since ours was not cold.

At first they charged me more than what i had reserved for but later rectified and said they mistaken me for someone else who has similar name.

Staff were friendly and the cleanliness was exceptional ?

Steps from parkings and reception area to the rooms are too many, I wish they can use golf cars to transport guests into their rooms
